Hello and welcome to Many Meetings, the heart of Tolkien-dom on Substack. I’m Breanne, a new-ish substacker, but a life long Tolkien fan. This space is one I’ve created to welcome others into these beautiful stories, sometimes on walks with my dog and sometimes in a quiet corner of your inbox.
Many Meetings is where I host my yearly read-through of The Lord of the Rings every September. Currently, we’re working through The Hobbit here in this little community and you’re welcome to come along if you like!
“It does not do to leave a live dragon out of your calculations, if you live near him.”

Happy Middle-earth Monday!
We’re finally getting near the end of our read-through of The Hobbit—only one post left, coming next week! (for paid subscribers only).
I’ve enjoyed returning to this story with you immensely. The things you mention in the comment section—what stands out, what parts you love, the nostalgia it brings you—has not only been sweet to read, but has enhanced my own experience as well.
In today’s post we’re talking about Bilbo’s growing relationship with the Dwarves, how one of the Valar (possibly) aided the quest to Erebor and finally, a little collection of delightful links that include Tolkien reading the Hobbit himself (you’ll love it!).
Let’s get into it.
