“Thus even as Eru spoke to us shall beauty not before conceived be brought into Eä, and evil yet be good to have been.”
–The Silmarillion, Chapter: Of the Sun and Moon and the Hiding of Valinor, J.R.R. Tolkien
Happy Silmarillion Sunday!
The world still waits in the darkness that fell after the destruction of The Two Trees. The Valar grieve what has been marred in the wake of Melkor’s deceit and betrayal.
But hope is not lost.

I’m so excited to have the honor of featuring several artists who specialize in bringing Tolkien’s legendarium to life as we read through The Silmarillion here on Substack!
The above Illustration is by Lída Holubová and you’ll be seeing more of their fantastic work as we continue on our journey. Please make sure to support them via the places I linked in today’s post!

Songs of healing can still be sung. Kinship can still be reforged. Even as evil rises again, it is being thwarted by things that have already been set in motion.
The race of Men is awakening. The Vala, Ulmo, sends visions to guide Turgon and Finrod to fortify themselves against what Morgoth broods in his dark fortress. The house of Fingolfin arrives on the shores of Middle-earth.
Even while destruction and terror wreak havoc, hope flickers like a star in the night sky.
Let’s get into it.
